We will also be launching Mark it Mondays and will be encouraging all parents to check their child's clothing for names to reduce the amount of lost property we have. Staff will be around with Sharpie pens to help.

Enjoy the long weekend and also remember to think about sun safety with your child having suncream, hat and water in school.

Warm regards,

Michele Johnson

Foundation Stage

The children have settled in really well after the Easter break and are enjoying their last term in Foundation. We have started our new topic, 'Let's Grow'. The children have enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a plant and have all planted their own bean to look after at home.  Don't forget to let us know about its progress! Next week we will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and making our very own symmetrical butterfly prints.

Year 1

Year 1 have worked hard since returning from their Easter Break! They have loved reading Paddington's Post and have written their own letters and postcards based on it! In our reading we have started There's A Rang-Tan in my bedroom and the children enjoyed learning what mischief was created! In our maths we have started looking at multiplication and division using arrays. Our topics have focused on History and we have been learning about the lives of significant individuals; they loved learning about Neil Armstrong! As the weather gets warmer please make sure any hats brought in are named and that your child has a water bottle.

Year 2

Year 2 has had a great start to the Summer Term. In Art, we started the term concentrating on the artist Danny Eastwood, who is an Australian artist who produces Aboriginal art. We took inspiration from Danny and created a 3D fish and decorated it using Aboriginal techniques.  They proved to be very challenging, but we got there  in the end and we are very proud of our results! We have been super busy in English and have been concentrating on subordinating conjunctions, apostrophes for contraction and singular possession. Ask us all about it! We then moved on to creating our own characters for an entertaining narrative. In Maths, we have been looking at halving and doubling and multiplying and dividing by two.

Year 3

We have jumped straight back into our learning in Year 3 and have been as busy as ever. We have continued swimming from our first day back and are looking forward to this for the coming term. We have begun a new unit of Art and have already been creating 3d sculptures using natural materials and gesso (PVA, paint, plaster of paris).
Fractions have been a big focus over the last few weeks and all the children have been developing their knowledge and growing in confidence with this tricky unit. We are using what we have learnt and are now investigating fractions of shape before moving onto addition/subtraction of fractions. We have begun athletics in PE and learning about Judaism in RE.

Year 4

The children in Year 4 have enjoyed re-visiting their knowledge about rivers in our recent geography unit. They then went on to learn all about the River Nile which will be very useful when we study the ancient Egyptians later in the term.

In English they are writing a diary entry about their visit to Tolmers – and as we are going to Tolmers this week, the children will get a chance to edit their drafts when we return. It will be interesting to see if they want to change any of the events!

In our maths lessons we have continued our unit on long division. We are really proud of how hard they have all worked and the resilience they have shown. Well done Year 4!

We hope you enjoyed your book-looks if you were able to come into school.

Year 5

What We’re Learning This Month

Maths – 3D Shapes
Children are exploring 3D shapes, learning to name and describe them using terms like faces, edges, and vertices. They’ve also been building models to better understand how these shapes appear in the world around us.

English – Playscripts
We’ve been reading and writing playscripts! Students have learnt the key features—like stage directions and character dialogue—and are now busy writing their own mini-plays. It’s been a fun way to develop speaking, listening, and writing skills.

Art – Jim Dine-Inspired Painting
Our art lessons have focused on the work of Jim Dine, especially his expressive heart paintings. Children have explored colour, texture, and emotion through their own creative interpretations.

Computing – Online Safety
We’ve had important discussions about how to stay safe online. This includes protecting personal information, using secure passwords, and knowing how to respond if they see something upsetting or suspicious.

Year 6

We have been so impressed over the last two weeks with the way in which Year 6 have applied themselves to their revision in preparation for their SATs tests. They have been enthusiastic and focused and we have been so pleased with the attendance of the study club in the mornings. A huge thank you to all of the parents and carers for their continued support with this!

Alongside revision, the children have also started a new topic in music, where they have been learning how to play Frere Jacques on the keyboard and some children even played solo to the class. In PE, we have started our new topics of badminton and athletics. We have been so impressed with their skills and abilities. The children have definitely enjoyed these lessons as a bit of light relief away from their revision!

Join your local library today!

To celebrate World Book Day, not only would we like the children to come dressed up as their favourite book character, we would also like them to join their local library.

We are planning a trip to the library, in small groups, and in order to visit,  parents will need to sign up. So that we know your child is registered, please complete the consent form on Arbor (under Arbor Trips). Once we know your child is registered with their library, we will arrange for them to participate in one of the trips. We will send further details of the trips once confirmed.
