Sports Newsletter (Summer Term) - 12th June 2025

Welcome to the Sports Newsletter!

Hello everyone,

We’re delighted to share highlights from our sporting activities and achievements at Green Lanes Primary School since March. Our pupils have shown fantastic teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. Thank you to all the families and staff for your ongoing support!

Tag Rugby Festival

Ten Year 6 pupils represented Green Lanes at the Tag Rugby Festival at Monks Walk. Their commitment to team training before the event really paid off, and we were impressed by their teamwork and sportsmanship on the day.

Dance Festival

Our Year 5 Dance Club wowed a packed audience at Campus West, performing alongside five other schools. Their confidence and creativity shone through, and we’re incredibly proud of their efforts. The festival raised an amazing £1,434.76 for the DiPPs charity across the three nights.

Indoor Athletics Success

Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 girls, who, after excelling in the District Indoor Athletics competition, went on to represent Welwyn and Hatfield at the County Finals. Their positive attitude and resilience were outstanding throughout.

Year 4 Girls’ Football Festival

Year 4 girls enjoyed a fantastic football festival at Ridgeway, working on new skills and playing matches as part of our partnership with Welwyn United. Well done to all who took part!

District Football Competition

Our boys’ football team competed in a challenging district tournament at Ridgeway. Despite tough opposition, they played with determination and perseverance. We’re proud of their teamwork and efforts this season.

Year 3 BISI Badminton

Year 3 pupils enjoyed a carousel of badminton activities at Stanborough, led by sports leaders. Their enthusiasm and team spirit made us very proud.

Netball Tournament Triumph

Our netball teams continue to go from strength to strength. A special mention to the team who reached the final at the District Netball Tournament, only narrowly missing out on first place. Exceptional teamwork and determination all round!

Tri-Golf Experience

Year 4 enjoyed two Tri-Golf sessions with Mrs Moxham from Stanborough, culminating in the district competition at Mill Green Golf Club. Eight children were selected to represent Green Lanes and had a fantastic time developing new skills.

Year 6 Swim Gala

Green Lanes took part in the Year 6 Swim Gala at Monks Walk for the first time. Eight pupils volunteered to compete in individual and relay races, showing great enthusiasm and team spirit throughout.

Dynamos Cricket Competition

On 6th June, Year 5 and 6 girls took part in their first Dynamos Cricket competition, impressing everyone with their determination and skills. In the afternoon, the Year 6 boys’ team performed brilliantly, winning their first two games and only narrowly missing out in the third!

Year 6 Girls’ Golf – ‘This Girl Can’ Week

All Year 6 girls took part in a golf session at Mill Green Golf Club, enjoying a range of activities as part of Sport England’s ‘This Girl Can’ campaign. We hope this inspires our girls to stay active and try new sports!

Football – End of Season Highlights

A huge well done to everyone who played in our football teams this year! Thank you to parents and carers for your support with transport and encouragement. This was also our first season with  teams playing in both the boys and girls’ leagues, with both teams representing our school brilliantly —well done to all involved!

Skipping Competition

Green Lanes recently took part in the inter-school skipping competition. Pupils were challenged to see how many skips they could complete in 30 seconds, encouraging both individual effort and friendly competition.

Thanks to the fantastic participation and dedication of our pupils, Green Lanes Primary School achieved an outstanding first place with a combined score of 770 points!

To celebrate their achievements, the ten children who recorded the highest individual scores for Green Lanes each received a gold medal in recognition of their effort and perseverance.

Thank You!

We are extremely proud of all our pupils for their dedication and achievements in sport this term. Thank you to staff, parents, and carers for making these opportunities possible.
