Headteacher's update

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have a few important updates and reminders to share with you this week:

Summer Fair

Wow, a huge thank you to the GLSA for their amazing Summer Fair. From the Lancaster bomber fly over to Alpacas and stalls, live music and acts. It was a great event. All the money raised is donated to the school, so we can give your child the added extras and not charge you for transport costs when we use the minibus which the GLSA pay for each year. Thank you from all of us!

School Reports

All children’s annual school reports will be emailed to you on Friday 18th July. Please check your email and take some time to discuss their achievements and next steps with them. If you would like to discuss the report with the teacher, please contact admin.

Parent Questionnaire

We value your feedback! Our end of year parent questionnaire will be sent to you on Monday to gather your views on how we can continue to improve our school. Please complete and return the questionnaire by Friday 18th July. Your opinions make a real difference. We will compare your comments at the start of the year and take on your feedback for the next academic year.

Transition Day

Yesterday was our exciting Transition Day. All children met their new teachers and spent time in their new classrooms. This is an important step to help everyone feel confident and ready for September. I wish our Year 6s well as they also visited their new secondary schools yesterday.

Hot Weather Reminder

With the warmer weather, please make sure your child comes to school with:

  • A named sun hat
  • Sun cream applied before school
  • A water bottle (named)

Kind regards

Foundation Stage

This week in Foundation the children have been talking about their move up to year one. Yesterday, they had the opportunity to meet their new teachers and have a look round their new classrooms. They were all excited to see what it was like and we were really proud of them all. You have access to the Year One Transition booklet on Google Classroom, but if you have any questions or concerns, please just speak to one of the team. Next week is our last full week of teaching and our last Little Wandle Assessment Week. Please can you make sure that all reading books and school library books are returned. New books at the new reading levels will be issued in September. If you have time over the summer don't forget to take part in the Hertfordshire Libraries Summer Reading Challenge. It's a lovely way for the children to keep up with their reading over the break. Thank you for all of your help and continued support.

Year 1

Year 1 have smashed the last couple of weeks. They worked hard on remembering their lines and the songs for their assembly. In writing the children loved writing their own stories about a monster. In our maths we have looked numbers to 20 again and how we can make them. Our reading lessons have focused on The Proudest Blue and the children enjoyed reading about Asiya and her sister. As the weather is still warm please make sure your child brings in a name water bottle and hat. As it comes to the end of term we will begin collecting in reading and library books next week. We would like to say how proud we all of the children in year 1 this year and we have loved teaching them.

Year 2

What a great couple of weeks we have had in Y2. Despite the weather, we have managed to complete some great learning.  In English, we have published our Superhero stories and we are super proud of them! We have now moved on to working on recounts, which we have based on our trip to the Bunker. We are focusing on past tense, (progressive and simple), conjunctions (coordinating and subordinating), expanded noun phrases and adverbs of time.  In Maths, we are learning to tell the time using an analogue clock.  We are fantastic with our O'clock and half past and we are now working on our quarter past, quarter to and 5 minute intervals, which is really tricky! In DT, we have just completed our topic on structures and have learnt about how buildings are strengthened. We have completed a challenge to build a structure out of index cards that was 50cm in height and that could hold a 1kg weight! It was so much fun! Ask us about it! We have also completed our transition morning and have visited our new classrooms this week. It was fun, but also a little bit nerve wracking.

Year 3

Year 3 have been finishing off their Computing unit focusing on animation. The children created their own stop animations based on a theme of their choice. These were then shared with the class and discussed. We have been enjoying our recent narrative work within our English lessons using Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as inspiration. We have now begun our next Science unit learning about Light. We have been using torches to investigate how and why shadows are formed and what happens to shadows when the light source moves positions.

Year 4

In Year 4 we have been cooking in D&T - creating Root Vegetable Rostis and a delicious Chickpea Curry. The enthusiasm shown by the whole year group was amazing - and the final dishes were too! Hopefully children will be keen to share their new culinary skills at home. In Maths we have been extending our understanding of perimeter and area, looking at compound shapes and how to calculate length of missing measurements. Our final topic in Writing for the year is Poetry, and we have been exploring an anthology of different styles and poets. Adults are looking forward to hearing more poetic performances in the classroom, and hopefully hearing some original compositions by the end of term. As we countdown to summer, next week we will have our last Art unit on printmaking, along with the opportunity to watch the Year 6 Showcase on Monday afternoon.

Class Newsletter – A Message to Our Parents
Term Highlights: Inspiration, Learning & Creativity

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had a fantastic term full of exciting learning opportunities, and we’re thrilled to share some of the highlights with you!

?? Inspirational Figures
Our class has been learning about some truly remarkable people. The students chose Emma Watson as a favourite for her inspiring work in acting and gender equality. We also explored the achievements of Simon Farwell, who has contributed to the world of computing education, and the pioneering  scientist Marie Curie, whose groundbreaking research in physics and chemistry has fascinated us all. These figures sparked meaningful conversations about determination, equality, and the power of knowledge and students wrote a biography of their favourite person.

? Marvellous Maths
In maths, we’ve been exploring rectangles and squares. The children have been measuring, drawing, and comparing shapes, and applying their knowledge to practical problems. They’ve done brilliantly in recognising the properties of 2D shapes and even created their own shape-based puzzles.

?? Creative Computing
Computing lessons have been all about selection in quizzes—learning how computers make decisions using if/else logic. The children applied this knowledge using Scratch, a fun and accessible programming platform. They’ve created interactive quizzes and games where players make choices and see different outcomes, which has really boosted their problem-solving and coding skills.

Year 6

Year 6 have continued to impress us with their dedication and enthusiasm during our production rehearsals. The children have proven themselves to be fantastic actors, dancers, and singers. We can't wait to see them shine when they perform to an audience next week!

We also had a wonderful visit a couple of weeks ago from the Herts Fire and Safety Team. Despite the incredibly hot weather, everyone enjoyed learning about fire safety—and especially loved cooling down with the water and hoses!

As part of our ongoing transition support, we've been talking all about moving on to secondary school. Year 6 have shown maturity and confidence, and we’re certain they’re ready for this exciting new chapter in their lives.

We are so proud of every single one of them!

Join your local library today!

To celebrate World Book Day, not only would we like the children to come dressed up as their favourite book character, we would also like them to join their local library.

We are planning a trip to the library, in small groups, and in order to visit,  parents will need to sign up. So that we know your child is registered, please complete the consent form on Arbor (under Arbor Trips). Once we know your child is registered with their library, we will arrange for them to participate in one of the trips. We will send further details of the trips once confirmed.
