It was great to speak to each parent individually about how well their child has progressed so far this year. It was so lovely to see how proud and excited the children were to show you around their classrooms and to share their books with you during Book Look.

As we are approaching the start of Christmas, please check your child's bags regularly for letters, books, and artwork.

We are missing several family pictures, and it is important that we receive them. Please email a family photo to admin@greenlanes.herts.sch.uk. This will ensure your child has you nearby when needed.

Lastly, in Reception, we have an elf. Many families also have one, which is terrific! However, it's important to note that while some families have a rule about not touching the elf to preserve its magic, others do not. To maintain clarity and avoid any chaos, please ensure that your child does not bring their elf to school. Thank you for your understanding and support!

We have had another busy week in Year 1. The children have thoroughly enjoyed making their own Fox Sandwich. They practised following a recipe and using their cutting skills to prepare the ingredients. It has been a great finish to our Recipe unit in English. We have started our new English topic of traditional tales earlier this week. 

The children have completed their first maths assessments and we have had a practical maths week where the  children have been given the opportunities to practice their maths fluency using our maths packs.

We've just finished writing our stories about journeys – the children have worked so hard on these and produced some fantastic writing.

In Science, we have been learning about what animals need to survive. The children have really enjoyed exploring how different animals find food, water and shelter.

In English the children have continued to use fronted adverbials and prepositional phrases when writing their own explanation text. They have chosen their own gadget and have planned what they would like to include in their explanation text. They have started to write their first draft and will publish their own explanation text by the end of the week.

In Maths, we have been delving deeper into our understanding of multiplication and division. We have looked at the laws of divisibility and how to identify if a number can be divided by another number. We have also been thinking about the most efficient strategies to solve a multiplication calculation.

Finally, Year 4 have been completing their assessments this week to show what they have learned. Well done for your hard work, Year 4!

The children have been working incredibly hard and enjoying a range of activities across the curriculum. We are excited to share their successes and give you a glimpse into our classroom learning.

In English, we have been focussing on 'writing to entertain', where the children have been learning the skills needed to write a narrative. The focus text for this unit is The Promise by Nicola Davies and illustrated by Laura Carlin.  The language features that the children have been practising are expanded noun phrases, prepositional phrases and the use of figurative language (similes, metaphors and personification) to appeal to the audience they are writing for. The children are really enjoying exploring their writing skills and will soon be writing and publishing their own stories.

In Maths, we have been exploring square numbers and cube numbers, using manipulatives to carry out our investigations. In addition, we have been building on our problem-solving skills/strategies by working backwards and finding a starting point. 

In Art, we have been exploring the technique of print making and the skill of 'reduction' (a method of block printing where part of the block is removed to create layers of colour and each colour is printed on top of the last). We have enjoyed mastering this technique and are very proud of our final pieces of work! 

The highlight of our week was Greek Day, where we enjoyed taking part in many different activities such as food tasting, sketching our favourite Greek god/goddess and researching it, as well as learning how to do a Greek dance! We had such fun discovering all about Greek culture and even learnt how to write our names in Greek!

We look forward to gaining more knowledge and skills in the coming weeks!

Year 6 have been absolutely smashing the assessments this week, they should be very proud of themselves.

In English, we have been drafting and publishing our Wisp stories of hope and memories. This has been great fun to get creative with our writing and publishing.

In maths, we have been learning all about fractions. We have simplified fractions using our knowledge of highest common factors and compared fractions using pictorial representations, and our knowledge of lowest common multiples.

In the afternoons, we have been learning about food and nutrition while making burritos and pitta bread. Alongside DT, we have been starting to learn about tectonic plates and natural disasters such as Earthquakes and Tsunamis in Geography.

Our talented pupils' artwork is now on display at H'arts in Mind at The Galleria in Hatfield.  The team at the shop were incredibly impressed by the creativity and skill our children have demonstrated, and we couldn't be prouder of their achievements.

We'd love for you to visit the exhibition and see your child's work being celebrated in our local community. It's a fantastic opportunity to show them how much we value their artistic talents.
