Foundation Stage

The children have settled in really well after the Easter break and are enjoying their last term in Foundation – it’s hard to believe!

We have started our new topic, 'Let's Grow', and the children have enjoyed learning about different types of minibeasts.

Next week we will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and making our own symmetrical butterfly prints.  We have explored the life cycle using a range of models.

Please help your child to practise their lines for our assembly.  The letter will be in their book folder or bag.

Year 1

Year 1 have made a fantastic start to the Summer Term. We have begun to revisit all of our new phase 5 sounds we have learnt so far this year in order to help children's recognition before the Phonics Screening Check in June. I will continue to send home words and alien words on a Friday to practise at home.

In English we have been using the book Paddington's Post to learn how to write our own postcards and letters. We look forward to showing them on Green Lanes is Great evening.

In History we have been learning about the lives of four significant astronauts. We have then used our skills to compare them. Tomorrow we will be spending the day finishing off our History learning and learning about the life of an astronaut in 'Green Lanes Astronaut Training Camp'. Your child will just come to school as normal and all the learning will take place in the Year 1 unit.

Year 2

This week, Year 2 have been working hard in maths, learning how to double and halve two-digit numbers. The children have been using a range of strategies to solve these problems, including partitioning numbers and using the written method.

In English, we've been focusing on instructional writing. The children have been making sure their instructions on how to wash a woolly mammoth are clear and detailed – they've thought carefully about using bossy verbs, time connectives, and numbered steps to help their readers follow along!

In Art, we've been exploring 3D Aboriginal art and the children have been sculpting their own 3D fish, experimenting with texture and form. It's been a creative and busy week!

Year 3

Year 3 have come back calmly after Easter and have settled into their routines again.

In our English unit we have continued to look at persuasive devices and have begun to plan our speeches.

In Maths we have focused on practical times tables and the children enjoyed playing a variety of different times tables games.

The children have enjoyed learning about the Roman Empire and the impact it had on Britain in our History lessons and have had some fabulous questions about their learning.

Year 4

We are very proud of how well the children have settled into the start of the summer term. They have returned to school with positive attitudes and have been working extremely hard in all their lessons.

In English, the children have been learning about the different features needed to write a persuasive letter. They have chosen topics they care about, carried out research, and carefully planned their ideas in preparation for writing their own letters to persuade a reader.

In Maths, we have been focusing on developing our skills in short multiplication. The children have shown great determination and are becoming more confident when solving multiplication problems.

In Geography, we have recently finished our learning about the water cycle. The children enjoyed exploring how water moves around our planet. We have now moved on to Art, where the class has begun experimenting with abstract painting and expressing their creativity in new ways.

Finally, the children are all very excited about our upcoming trip to Tolmers Activity Centre next week. We are looking forward to a fun and memorable experience together—fingers crossed for lovely weather!

Year 5

Welcome to the start of the Summer term!  We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break.

In English, we have been focusing on writing suspense narratives inspired by Boy in the Tower.  The children have worked incredibly hard to build tension and develop their storytelling skills, and we are delighted to share that they published their final pieces this week.  Next week, we will be starting our 3-week Advertising campaign and we would appreciate it if you could send your children to school with some age-appropriate adverts from newspapers and magazines if you can find any.

In Maths, we have been strengthening our problem-solving skills. The class has been using bar models to represent problems, interpreting statistical information, and exploring how working backwards can be an effective strategy.

In Computing, we have been learning about flat-file databases. The children have developed their understanding of how data is organised and have practised conducting searches quickly and efficiently.

We look forward to an exciting term ahead!

Year 6

We have started off Summer term with a bang!

We are currently preparing for our SATs in Year 6 and are doing so with great determination and resilience. We want every child to feel as prepared as possible so they can feel at ease during the tests.

Aside from that, the children have been exploring 'Tinkercad', which is an online 3D modelling software. They have been making all sorts of creations!  Please feel free to access this at home and have a go.

Please be aware that from now until SATs, there are daily morning Study Club sessions. They start from 8:10am and are in Da Vinci class with Mrs Courtney.  You can come once a week or everyday!  Every child in Year 6 is invited to attend as it is a great start to the morning.  We can help with all revision and you can use our resources too, such as print outs and chrome books.

Inclusion and Banksy

If you have been sent a SchoolCloud invitation to book an APDR (Assessment, Planning, Delivery, Review) meeting with the Inclusion Team, please make sure you book your appointment as soon as possible.

These meetings are an important opportunity to discuss your child's progress and ensure they are receiving the right support. If you're having any difficulties accessing SchoolCloud or booking your slot, please contact the school office and we'll be happy to help.

Thank You - SEN Drop-In Session

A big thank you to all the parents who joined us for our recent SEN drop-in session.

It was wonderful to see so many of you there, and we really value the opportunity to work together to support our children. Your engagement and the questions you raised help us to continually improve our provision. We look forward to seeing you at future sessions.

Puzzle Donation Request - Banksy

Banksy are in need of puzzles!

If you have any age-appropriate puzzles at home (suitable for primary-aged children) that are complete and in good condition, we would be very grateful for donations. Puzzles are a fantastic resource for developing problem-solving skills, concentration and fine motor skills.

Please drop any donations to the school office. Thank you in advance for your support.
